ACCOUNT DELETION

Leaving should be clear.

You can delete your Derby account and everything in it. Here is exactly how it works, how long it takes, and what happens to your things.

How deletion works

Deleting an account is permanent, so Derby asks twice and then waits. There are two steps and one waiting period, and you can stop at any point before the end of it.

  1. You ask. In the app, or by email if you can’t get into the app. Your profile goes invisible to other people immediately.
  2. You confirm from your email. Derby sends a confirmation link to the address on your account. Nothing is deleted until you open it. The link expires after 24 hours.
  3. Derby waits 24 hours, then deletes. The countdown starts when you open the link. Until it runs out you can cancel from Settings and keep your account exactly as it was.

The two-step confirmation is there so a stray tap, or someone else with your phone in their hand for a minute, can’t end your account.

In the app

This is the fastest route, and the one to use if you can still sign in.

  1. Open Derby and go to the You tab.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Under Your account, tap Delete account.
  4. Tap Send the email to confirm you meant it.
  5. Open the confirmation link in the email Derby sends you.
  6. Twenty-four hours later your account is gone. Before then, the same screen has a Keep my account button that cancels the whole thing.

If you want a copy of your photos first, take it before you start: Settings → Your account → Export your photos. Deletion is not reversible once it runs, and exports don’t survive it.

By email, if you can’t sign in

Lost the phone, lost access to the account, never got signed back in — you can still ask us to delete it. Write to support@derbysocial.app from the email address on your Derby account, with the subject line “Delete my account.”

Sending from the account address is how we know the request is yours. We reply from a person, start the same two-step process, and the same 24-hour window applies. If we can’t match the address to an account, we’ll say so rather than delete the wrong one.

Requests by email go to support@derbysocial.app, and we answer, usually within a day or two.

What gets deleted

  • Your profile: name, photo, bio, and the email on the account.
  • Your photos, including the stored files behind them.
  • Your clips, including the video files and the still frame for each.
  • Your plans, and your answers to other people’s plans.
  • Your messages, photos and questions in plan chats, and every message, photo and question in the chats of your own plans.
  • Your friendships, your private groups, and your blocks and mutes.
  • Your hearts, and the records derived from all of the above.

Direct messages you sent in Fiber stay visible to the people you sent them to, attributed to “deleted user” with your name and photo removed.

Encrypted backups are kept on a rolling basis for disaster recovery and age out on their own cycle. Nothing is restored from them to bring a deleted account back.

During the 24 hours

  • You can still sign in, and the app tells you deletion is scheduled.
  • You are invisible to other people from the moment you ask.
  • Cancelling restores your account and your visibility.
  • If you do nothing, deletion runs on its own. No further step is needed.

Coming from Fiber

Derby is the same app Fiber was, redesigned and renamed, on the same account. If you had a Fiber account, deleting your Derby account deletes it — there isn’t a second account left behind somewhere.
